Jack Black Rock


The Coming Soon! Box Office Report has been updated with this weekend's studio estimates. Be sure to stay tuned there for the final figures on Monday afternoon.

Jack Black took over the #1 spot at the box office with Paramount's School of Rock. The comedy earned an impressive $20.2 million from 2,614 locations for a strong average of $7,727. The film was budgeted at about $32 million.

Denzel Washington's Out of Time debuted in second place with $17 million from 3,076 theaters. The MGM thriller averaged $5,526 and carries a $50 million production cost.

The Rock's The Rundown dropped to third and 47.3% in its second weekend. The action comedy collected $9.8 million and has a total of $32.7 million so far.

Diane Lane's Under the Tuscan Sun took the fourth spot and dipped just 18.9% in its second weekend for a sum of $7.9 million. The romantic comedy is up to $20.9 million.

New Line's Secondhand Lions rounded out the top five with $5.4 million. The film has earned $30.8 million in three weeks.

Other notables include Focus Features' Lost in Translation, which added 376 theaters for a total of 864 and managed to increase sales to $4.3 million and push its total to $14.2 million, Lions Gate Films' Wonderland, which took $90,000 from 5 theaters for an average of $18,000, and Miramax's The Station Agent, which opened in just 3 theaters and made $55,500 with an average of $18,500.
